A LOLER thorough examination is a detailed and systematic inspection of the machine and its safety-critical components, carried out by a competent person. The examination concludes with a written report identifying the examination date, when the next examination is due and any defects that could affect safety.
Cherry pickers and MEWPs used to lift people must generally undergo a thorough examination at least every six months, unless an alternative interval is specified under a valid examination scheme.
